The Template Display Settings is the most complicated and powerful area of Proclaim!. Here you control how information is displayed on all the Lists and Individual views. There is a Default Template that you cannot delete, but you can create as many templates as you wish to have multiple different configurations. You can also Export and Import Templates between Joomla installations. That button is at the top of the Templates List Page.
General Items
Name
Give your template a name. Do NOT use the name Default. The system won't allow you to save using that name. If you are only using the Default Template, then leave this field alone.
Details Link Image
If you wish to use an image instead of an HTML link to the details page of a view, select it here.
Templates to Use
Choose which Template to use on which Views. You will notice that there are Template Settings and Template Files. If you choose to use Settings, then the information you enter on this view will be used. If you choose one of the Template Files, then that file will be used for the view instead. Template Files have their own list and edit views.
Time Offset
You probably won't need to use this, but if you are having difficulty with the offset from your server to where your church exists, you can use this to help. It will use GMT offsets.
Headers
Decide if you want a light or dark header on the listing pages. This does not impact Simple View. The dark header uses white text on a dark background.
Terms & Conditions
You may have terms and conditions that the visitor must agree to before proceeding. Enter that information here and set the toggle to Yes.
Media
You can set parameters for media here, in the Administration Area and in a specific media file record. The media record overrides all.
Many of the choices on the left are obvious. As for colors, experiment with various color options and see how they impact your popup media player.
The Share Menu allows your visitors to share a media file on Social Media.
Popup Elements
There are various elements you can choose here. Either enter text, or a field enclosed in {{}}.
The Elements you can use are:
- {{filename}}
- {{teacher}}
- {{studydate}}
- {{description}}
- {{title}}
- {{scripture}}
- {{teacherimage}}
- {{series}}
- {{series_thumbnail}}
Squeeze Box
The items below refer to the Squeeze Box media player
Landing Page
Choose whether to use the Listing Page Intro text here and whether to use the Listing Page Image. Choose the text for the headline at the top of the page and the intro (if you don't want to use the Listing Page text)
For the rest of the elements, read the text below the input item for help text.
Message Listing
This tab sets the look and feel for the Message List view. It does not apply if you are using Simple Mode. Most of the items have help text below the input field. We will discuss those here that need further explanation.
Teachers
You are presented with a list of teachers. Click to choose a teacher to show on the Message List view. You can Ctrl or Cmd click to select multiple. Leave blank to show all.
Search Items
There is a search bar at the top of the Message List view. You can choose to show or hide each search area. You can also determine whether to show the Language, search limit, and pagination.
Filters
Filters are a powerful way to only show what you want on the Message List view. Remember, you can have multiple templates with various filters. Be careful, you can end up showing nothing if you filter too much!
Tooltips
A tooltip shows as text when you hover over a list item. You have five tooltip items you can select. You choose in the individual item whether to show the tooltip or not. Give the overall tip a title such as "Message Information" and then choose a label and an item from that row to show. The resulting tooltip could read like: "Message Information :: Title: My Message Title - Date: 1/1/2030 - Message Type: Sunday" or something like that.
Display Items List
This is the most powerful and complicated portion of the view settings. We use Bootstrap to present items in this view. Think of a table that is six rows long by a potential 12 columns wide. We have broken up the list view items into six lists ( to save space on the screen). Think about how you want that table presented - choose an item to go in Row ! Column 1 and how many of the 12 columns you want to use. Yes, it's going to take some math and some experimentation to get this right. If an item, such as the Message Description, takes up more space than allowed, it will wrap. If it is a date, for instance, you will want to limit the number of columns or there will be lots of white space. Below is an example table. You will NOT want to design it like this, but you could!
Row 1 Col 1 | Row 1 Col 2 | Row 1 Col 3 | Row 1 Col 4 | Row 1 Col 5 | Row 1 Col 6 | Row 1 Col 7 | Row 1 Col 8 | Row 1 Col 9 | Row 1 Col 10 | Row 1 Col 11 | Row 1 Col 12 |
Row 2 | |||||||||||
Row 3 | |||||||||||
Row 4 | |||||||||||
Row 5 | |||||||||||
Row 6 |
So, in reality, you will have a balance. Here's another example:
We went through the list and chose Thumbnail (there isn't one) for Row 1, Order 1 and spanning 2 columns, then Message Date (found in Display Items List 2) Row 1, Order 2 spanning 2 columns. We then added the title and Media. You also get to choose the HTML type to present, such as Paragraph, Header or Block Quote and whether you want the item to be a link, and to what. For Row 2 we chose Message Introduction to take up 12 columns (the entire width of the table). Then Row 3 is the Message Date with a link to the Message Details. It spans 12 columns as well.
You don't have to use all six rows if you don't what to!
Message Detail View
Most of the items are explained in Help Text below the field. For the display of items, see the column/row discussion above.
Teacher Display
Teacher Details
Teacher Details means the information about an individual teacher. Show/Hide Teacher's Messages: on the teacher list, you can show links to a teacher's messages or not. If you choose to show messages, you can limit the number (a good idea), show a link to Latest Messages and the label for that link.
Finally, choose whether to show a Header and it's background color. The header is similar to what shows on the Message List View.
Teacher List Details
Determine what the Title will be for the Teacher list, and whether or not to use a header in that list.
Teacher List Row Display
Here we determine what items you want displayed on the list. Choose an item, the row, the order on the list, the HTML element to use, and the columns (of 12) to span. This is similar to the grid used in the Message List View.
Teacher Details Display
This is similar to the Teacher List above. Use information from the Message List Help above to design the 6 row, 12 column display.
Series
Setting up the Series List and Details is similar to Message and Teacher so refer to this Help sections for assistance.
Access Control
You can control who can access this template through these controls.
